Local surgeon named Wyoming Medical Society Physician of the Year
Premier Bone & Joint Centers' Dr. Lawrence A. Jenkins receives prestigious award


LARAMIE, Wyo. (July 2013) - Lawrence A. Jenkins, M.D., spine surgeon at Premier Bone & Joint Centers, has been named the 2013 Wyoming Medical Society Physician of the Year. The award, presented each year during the Wyoming Medical Society's Annual Meeting in Laramie, recognizes a physician who has made significant contributions to the improvement of Wyoming communities.

"I'm thankful to my colleagues and peers for recognizing me with this award," Dr. Jenkins says. "It is truly an honor."

Dr. Jenkins is an active member of several local and state specialty groups, serves on clinic and hospital committees, volunteers as the Orthopedic Coordinator at the Laramie Downtown Clinic, which provides free services to uninsured patients, and has served in leadership roles within the Wyoming Medical Society for more than 8 years. He is currently the Chief of Staff at Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie.

A native of Whittier, Calif., Dr. Jenkins earned his undergraduate degree in zoology from the University of California, Davis, before completing his medical degree at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He went on to receive advanced training in orthopedics through his internship and residency at Los Angeles County/USC Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in spinal surgery and rehabilitation at Rancho Los Amigos/Los Angeles County Rehabilitation Center before starting private practice in San Diego, Calif., in 1989. Dr. Jenkins joined Gem City Bone and Joint, now Premier Bone & Joint Centers, in 1994.
